The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, John Boadu, has uncovered that the NPP side of Parliament has suggested that Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye be kept up as Speaker in the eighth Parliament of Ghana.
According to Mr Boadu, this decision assented to by President-elect Akufo-Addo and the Party’s Council, is out of the need to maintain consistency in Parliament in view of the current numbers.
In the previous days, names of noticeable NPP individuals including Freddy Blay and Boakye Agyarko have been accounted for as contender for the position.
Be that as it may, a choice was made in a gathering on Monday, January 4, 2021 to give Professor Mike Oquaye an additional four years as Speaker of Parliament.
Professor Mike Oquaye has been parliament two- times for the Dome-Kwabenya constituency and has been speaker since 2017.
He filled in as Ghana's High Commissioner to India from 2001 to 2004.
In the John Agyekum Kufuor administration, Professor Mike Oquaye filled in as Minister of Energy and Communications.
Prof. Oquaye was additionally a professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana and was already the Head of the Department of Political Science and individual from the University's Academic Board.
The National Council of the NPP has also opted to maintain Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Suame MP, as its Leader in Parliament.
It has also endorsed the change in deputy from Sarah Adwoa Safo, the Dome-Kwabenya MP, to Alex Afenyo-Markin, the Effutu MP.
