Airplane Mode is the second studio album of Big Homie Wes .The album was released on June 9, 2020 It is the follow up to his first studio album 'Spliff & Brew' released in Febuary 2020.Airplane Mode is a very good hip hop album with trap elements which was richly produced and stubbed with gems. Big Homie Wes recorded and produced Airplane Mode with support from JT Beats and Riley Gascoyne.
Big Homie Wes knows what he’s good at, and from the first song “Swerve” to the last “Today or Tomorrow” he ably performs his brand of trippy, melodic, quasi-supernatural raps.
'Intro' Credits to Shyanne A. for a momentous intro. This sets the tone for the album, giving the listener a sense of context for the album. Very good and memorable intro for this project.
The second track 'Swerve' was really inspired by modern and braggadocios rap, being a producer and rapper, Big Homie Wes saw an opportunity to show his versatility. It’s easy to attribute Homie’s continual growth to an innate gift, but the reality is he put in the work.
On third track Winnebago , Big Homie Wes gets back his natural roots as a hip hop artist rapping punchlines over a slow drawn out beat featuring sampled drum loops chopped and rearranged. Continuing to flex bravado this track is a stand out which is the reason it was the first song from Airplane Mode to have an official music video. Watch Winnebago Video Here
The third track 'The Greatest' Big Homie Wes saw this track as a way of speaking what you want into reality. Featuring self production and a guest bass line by Joshua Young. This is another slow funky vibe much like Winnebago which is the reason he paired them in order. At under two minutes this song is short and sweet.
Big Gas the fourth track on the album was inspired by similar vibrations as ‘Swerve’, Big Gas is another aggressive and up beat track proves his versatility as not only an emcee but beatmaker/producer. Each track had to be at a certain level of quality to be considered for this project, and this one early in the process set the bar.
Fast Money follow-up of Big Gas, like the roller coaster ride; an album has to reach a climax. which is Fast Money, before getting into what would be considered B-side. Fast Money is exactly what you would imagine. An all out banger which had assistance from Riley Gascoyne and JT Beats on percussion elements and arrangement. Short explosive verses and a catchy hook is the formula here.
The seventh track 'Need Some Time' with Cienci and Just Cauz Cienci on the chorus, then Just Cauz and Big Homie Wes on verses respectively. This tune brings out concrete flows by all the artists featured. This song was chosen as the inspiration for Big Homie Wes’ first clothing line drop because of how well it has been received.
Pick Sides ft. DZY A timeless duo Big Homie Wes and DZY both bring bars and pro delivery over a heavy hitting beat with plenty of room for cutting vocals. A testament to loyalty featuring two STILTZ gang members- possibly a foreshadow of another great project. Its beat is incredibly bouncy, and the whole thing is just plain fun.
Frequencies is trippy track which features heavy production by JT Beats with sampling and arrangement by Big Homie Wes. According to Wes he had chorus already locked in his head and we began to co-produce and create the soundscape which is Frequencies, then he proceeded to lay vocals the following day.
The tenth song on the Airplane Mode album Somebody, a very separate sound from the rest of Airplane Mode the song Somebody has strong island vibes, ringing with positive energy and high vibrations. This is not a track to over look as it offers insight into another side of songwriter & producer Big Homie Wes.
Real Players , continuing in a similar direction Real Players serves as an inspiring anthem of trials and perseverance. With a popular and relatable theme; getting money. The Vermont rapper is focused on out-doing his last achievements, working towards cementing his legacy as the next important artist out of his city.
The last song to be recorded for this album was Today or Tomorrow. With a more serious tone and singing chorus this is a glimpse into the perspective of Big Homie Wes. Boasting a powerful instrumental and articulate flow this song was subconsciously inspired by the entire process of Airplane Mode as well as the flight that landed him back in Vermont after a much needed get away.
Big Homie Wes always keep it real, something we rarely see in today’s world. We’re conditioned to believe social media is everyone’s unfiltered thought, but really it’s people having control of their own narratives, only showing the parts of themselves they want people to see. But Big Homie Wes is entirely authentic.whether he’s your kind of rapper or not Big Homie Wes does it good, there is nothing artificial. The project Airplane Mode was mastered by Robot Dog Studio with cover art by A. Turner Designs.
